What is GATE-B Exam?

Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B) is a national entrance examination to test the eligibility of bonafide Indian nationals for admissions to DBT supported Post Graduate (DBT PG) Programmes in Biotechnology and allied sciences at participating institutions and universities.

The Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B) /Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) is a National Level Entrance Examination for admission to the Department of Biotechnology supported Post Graduate Programme in Biotechnology and allied areas in participating Institutions (GAT-B) and for the award of DBT – Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology (BET). The exam is conducted in order to offer admission to aspirants in Biotechnology programmes offered by the JNU as well as other participating colleges.

GAT B 2025 Result

National Testing Agency has released the GAT-B 2025 result online at the official website. Applicants appearing in the exam can check their GAT-B result 2025 at dbt.nta.ac.in. Candidates are required to enter their application number and date of birth/password to check GAT-B result. Applicants declared qualified based on the GAT-B 2025 results are eligible to participate in the counselling process. As per the previous year statistics, a total of 10493 candidates registered for GAT-B exam while 14234 applicants appeared for BET exam. Out of total registered candidates, 9116 appeared for GAT-exam and 11904 appeared for BET exam.

GAT B 2025 Admit Card

National Testing Agency has released the GAT-B admit card 2024 on the official website. Applicants appearing in the exam can download the GAT-B admit card through the application number and password/date of birth. Candidates appearing in the exam have to carry their GAT-B 2024 admit card along with one valid photo ID proof at the exam centre. After downloading GAT-B admit card 2024, candidates are advised to check all the details mentioned in it. In case of any mistake in GAT-B admit card, applicants are advised to contact the exam authorities for corrections.

GAT B 2025 Application Form

NTA has released the GAT-B application form at the official website. Candidates can fill GAT-B application form 2024 online at dbt.nta.ac.in. All students must fill in every detail carefully to avoid any discrepancies. Students needed to follow the below steps to fill in the GAT-B 2024 application form.

Step-1: GAT-B Registration 2025: Candidates have to fill in the online GAT-B application form online at the official website by entering their various details such as their names, date of birth, email ID, mobile number, etc. After the successful GAT-B registration, candidates will get the application/registration number.

Step-2: Filling details in the GAT-B application form: Candidates have to fill in their personal, educational and communicational details.

Step-3: Uploading documents: In the next step, applicants need to upload the required documents in the application form as per the specifications.

Step-4: Fee Payment: Candidates have to make payments online after logging in through the official website. Candidates will be able to make the payment via Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking. General category and OBC candidates have to make a payment of INR 1,200 for the application form. Reserved category candidates got a concession in fee payment and had to pay INR 600 for the application form. Those applying for both GAT-B and BET 2024 exams have to pay INR 2,400 (Unreserved categories) and INR 1,200 (Reserved categories) respectively.

GAT-B 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are advised to must go through GAT-B eligibility criteria before filling in the application form as those who do not satisfy the criteria will not be considered for admission. Given below are the eligibility criteria candidates can check:

  • Candidates must be citizens of India.
  • Candidates must have completed a Bachelor’s degree program from a recognized university in either of the fields i.e., Biological, Physical, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4-years BSc (Physician Assistance Course); or Medicine (MBBS) or BDS.
  • Candidates must have scored 60 per cent aggregate in Bachelor’s Degree (55 per cent for reserved category candidates). Candidates appearing for the qualifying examinations are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates should be of 28 years of age as on last date of application. There is a relaxation of age limit up to five years for the reserved category candidates, i.e., 33 years and up to three years for women candidates, i.e., 31 years.

GAT B Exam Pattern 2025

NTA has released the GAT-B 2024 exam pattern along with the official notification. Applicants appearing in the exam are advised to must refer to the GAT-B exam pattern for their preparations. The exam pattern of GAT-B 2024 comprises number of questions, marking scheme, duration and others. There will be two parts in the question paper.

Part A will have 60 compulsory multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer carries one mark each. There will be a negative marking and for each wrong answer, 0.5 (half) mark will be deducted.

Part B will have 100 questions out of which the candidates have to attempt 60 questions. Each correct answer will carry three marks. There will be a negative marking and for each wrong answer, one (1) mark will be deducted.

GAT B 2025 Syllabus

NTA released the GAT-B/BET syllabus along with the official notification. Applicants appearing in the exam must go through the syllabus of GAT-B 2024 for their preparations. GAT-B syllabus 2024 comprises important topics and chapters asked in the exam. The examination will be conducted in two shifts for a duration of 180 minutes. The question paper will have two parts.

Part A will have 60 compulsory multiple-choice questions of the level of Class 12 in the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

Part B will have multiple choice questions of bachelor’s level requiring thinking and analysis. There will be questions from basic Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and allied areas as per the syllabus given below. There will be 100 questions out of which the candidates will have to attempt 60 questions.

Gat-B vs IIT Jam?

GAT B is a national-level exam organized for students to pursue DBT-supported Postgraduate Programs whereas, the IIT JAM is conducted for students who hold a bachelor’s degree as per eligibility criteria and want to pursue postgraduate courses in Biotechnology from IITs and NITs.

What is the difference between Gat B and Bet?

Gat-B vs Bet?

The National Testing Agency is expected to release the CUET PG 2025 notification online in November 2024. The CUET PG 2025 examination, a national-level entrance test for postgraduate programs, will be held tentatively in online mode in the second week of March 2025.

GAT B exam online or offline?

The National Testing Agency conducts GAT B 2024 exam in online computer-based mode. The authorities will not conduct GAT B exam in offline mode under any circumstances. Successfully registered candidates will be issued GAT B admit card 2024 a few days before the commencement of the exam.
