About TSSET Life Sciences

The Telangana State Eligibility Test (TSSET / TG-SET) is conducted by Osmania University on behalf of the Telangana State Government to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor and Lecturer positions in universities and colleges across Telangana.

Per official UGC guidelines, TG-SET has adopted the CSIR/UGC-NET syllabus for all 29 subjects it covers, including Life Sciences. That means if you’ve studied for CSIR NET or UGC NET Life Sciences, your preparation directly carries over – but if you’re preparing for TSSET specifically, your coaching should reflect Paper I’s distinct weightage and pattern, not just Paper II content.

Exam Structure:

  • Paper I – General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude – 100 marks, common for all subjects, tests reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness (no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions)
  • Paper II – Life Sciences (subject-specific) – 100 marks, based on the CSIR/UGC-NET Life Sciences syllabus (13 units, detailed below)
  • Total duration: 3 hours across both papers
  • Validity: The TSSET certificate is valid for a lifetime – it does not expire, and it’s recognized specifically within Telangana (unlike CSIR NET/UGC NET, which are valid nationally)

Eligibility Criteria

  • A Master’s degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline (Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, etc.) from a UGC-recognized university
  • Minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) for General category candidates; relaxation applicable for reserved categories as per Telangana government norms
  • Candidates in their final year of Master’s degree can also apply provisionally

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official TG-SET website: telanganaset.org
  2. Check the current year’s notification for exact dates and eligibility updates
  3. Complete online registration with your academic and personal details
  4. Upload photograph and signature in the prescribed format
  5. Pay the application fee online
  6. Download and retain your application form/admit card when released

We recommend checking the official site directly for notification dates each cycle, since these change year to year.

Why Chandu Biology Classes for TSSET

We’re a Hyderabad-based institute specializing only in Life Sciences competitive exams – not a general multi-subject coaching factory. That focus means our curriculum, faculty, and study material are built around what TSSET, APPSC, CSIR NET, and related exams actually test – not generic content reused across unrelated subjects.

What you get:

  • Faculty with hands-on experience in Life Sciences competitive exam coaching, including guidance from Dr. Chandra Sekhar (AIR-2, CSIR NET Life Sciences; JRF at IISc Bangalore)
  • Complete coverage of both Paper I and Paper II – many aspirants only prepare for Paper II and lose easy marks on Paper I; we treat both with equal seriousness
  • Regular full-length mock tests modeled on the actual TSSET pattern
  • Study material built specifically for TSSET’s syllabus, not repurposed CSIR NET notes
  • Small batch sizes for direct faculty interaction

Complete Paper II Syllabus (Life Sciences Official 13 Units)

TG-SET Paper II follows the CSIR/UGC-NET Life Sciences syllabus. Here’s what each unit covers:

Unit 1 – Molecules and Their Interaction Relevant to Biology Atomic/molecular structure and chemical bonds, biomolecule composition and function (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, vitamins), stabilizing interactions, biophysical chemistry principles, bioenergetics and enzyme kinetics, protein and nucleic acid conformation and stability, metabolism of major biomolecules.

Unit 2 – Cellular Organization Membrane structure and transport mechanisms, intracellular organelle structure and function, organization of genes and chromosomes, cell division and cell cycle regulation, microbial physiology.

Unit 3 – Fundamental Processes DNA replication, repair, and recombination; RNA synthesis and processing; protein synthesis and post-translational processing; regulation of gene expression at transcription and translation levels.

Unit 4 – Cell Communication and Cell Signaling Host-parasite interactions, cell signaling pathways and receptors, cellular communication mechanisms, cancer biology, innate and adaptive immune system.

Unit 5 – Developmental Biology Core concepts of development (differentiation, determination, stem cells), gametogenesis and fertilization, morphogenesis and organogenesis in animals and plants, programmed cell death and senescence.

Unit 6 – System Physiology (Plant) Photosynthesis, respiration and photorespiration, nitrogen metabolism, plant hormones, sensory photobiology, solute transport, secondary metabolites, stress physiology.

Unit 7 – System Physiology (Animal) Blood and circulation, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, nervous system, sense organs, excretory system, thermoregulation, digestive system, endocrinology and reproduction.

Unit 8 – Inheritance Biology Mendelian principles and extensions, gene concept, gene mapping methods, extrachromosomal inheritance, microbial genetics, human genetics, quantitative genetics, mutation, chromosomal alterations, recombination.

Unit 9 – Diversity of Life Forms Principles and methods of taxonomy, structural organization across life forms, classification of plants/animals/microorganisms, natural history of the Indian subcontinent, organisms of health/agricultural/conservation importance.

Unit 10 – Ecological Principles Environment and habitat/niche concepts, population and community ecology, species interactions, ecological succession, ecosystem ecology, biogeography, applied ecology, conservation biology.

Unit 11 – Evolution and Behavior History of evolutionary thought, origin of cells and unicellular evolution, paleontology, molecular evolution, mechanisms of evolution (population genetics, speciation), brain/behavior/evolution linkages.

Unit 12 – Applied Biology Microbial fermentation, immunological applications and vaccines, tissue/cell culture, transgenics, genomics applications, bioresources, breeding methods, bioremediation, biosensors.

Unit 13 – Methods in Biology Molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques, histochemical and immunotechniques, biophysical methods, statistical methods, radiolabeling techniques, microscopy, electrophysiological methods, field biology methods.

This is the same syllabus foundation as CSIR NET Life Sciences, so if you’re preparing for both exams, your Paper II preparation overlaps significantly. Paper I preparation (teaching aptitude, reasoning, general awareness) is TSSET-specific and needs separate focus.

Our Preparation Approach

Phase 1 – Foundation: Complete syllabus coverage for both papers, with emphasis on conceptual clarity before moving to advanced application.

Phase 2 – Application & Practice: Deeper problem-solving, integration across topics, and subject-wise mock tests to flag weak areas early.

Phase 3 – Revision & Simulation: Multiple full-syllabus revisions, timed mock tests under exam-like conditions, and previous-year paper walkthroughs.

We put real emphasis on Paper I – it’s the section most aspirants under-prepare for, and it’s where easy, avoidable marks are lost.
